We are celebrating our 5th Year
Busy as a Bee in Spring describes the REACH Foundation and our Volunteers! Between March and April we sponsor and host five events! It may not be the easiest schedule but it is SO worth it!
We hit the ground running March 19th at ShamRock ‘n Run 5K and 2K Fun Run. We opened with sunshine and blue skies with over 1,100 5K and 2K runners and walkers supporting the REACH Foundation. Each registration generated a $5 donation to the school selected by the runner. This year Glenknoll Elementary took the fundraising challenge to heart. Their school registration drive earned $1,015.00 and won them the High Participation Award for elementary schools.
Participation Awards for fun competition between our High Schools and Middle Schools was started this year. The Bell Challenge (Valencia vs. El Dorado) went to Valencia High School and the Boulevard Challenge (Esperanza and Yorba Linda) went to Yorba Linda High School. Bernardo Yorba took the High Participation Award for the Middle schools and as a bonus Assistant Principal Steve Marshall took best dressed as he ran the 5K in a kilt!
The goal of ShamRock ‘n Run is to fully fund the REACH Middle School Track Meet. Just 2 weeks later on April 5th over 340 student athletes from all 6 PYLUSD middle schools met to compete at Shapell Stadium. Administrators and teachers from the schools shared stories at how their students looked forward to being a part of this high caliber Track and Field Meet. Along with training for the different events students were also required to keep their grades up in order to participate. The enthusiasm, camaraderie and sportsmanship shown by all the students participating was awesome! A special thank you to Yorba Linda High School Track & Field Head Coach Gomez. His track and field team and their booster group volunteered their time and talent to help host this special event.
Next stop the REACH Foundation Spelling Bee held April 22nd at the District Performing Arts Center. Superspellers from across the district, grades 3-6 competed in this all day event. This has become a fun academic experience for our elementary school students, building their confidence and character by participating with other students across the district. The Rotary Clubs of Placentia and Yorba Linda partnered with REACH to sponsor this event. The Kumon Center of Placentia is also a key sponsor and we thank them for their yearly participation.
But wait there’s more! ArtWorks! 2017 is the PYLUSD annual student art exhibit. Teachers collect the finest art crated by their student grades K-12. The REACH Foundation volunteers as Gallery monitors for the week long exhibit. We also host an ArtWorks! gift shop. Select student art is for available for purchase. The proceeds benefit participating Art departments. It’s a Win Win for everyone!
Wrapping up our busy spring schedule the REACH Foundation sponsors Say Yes to the Dress or Suit. Our Placentia and Yorba Linda Communities graciously donate gently used and new formal wear for our PYLUSD high school students prom or graduation events. Our volunteers coordinated pick up of donations and held 2 dates for students to find the perfect outfit.
We’d like to thank our many student and adult volunteers for their dedicated contribution to our foundation. Best wishes for a safe and happy summer!
The 2016-2017 school year marks our 5th year supporting the 34 schools of PYLUSD. When we started in 2012 we were a handful of parents with a mission to develop and provide:
